Blocking
Answers
  1. How do I block my garment?
There are several blocking methods. Here are the most common:
    1. Wet blocking: Wet the pieces of the garment, press out excess water using towels (do not wring). Pin the pieces out and let them dry.
    2. Steam blocking: Pin pieces out to dimensions, wrong side up. If you have a steam iron, force the steam over the garment without touching the garment with the iron. If you do not have a steam iron, wet a pillowcase or sheet and wring it out so it’s damp. Using a hot iron, press down lightly on the pillowcase. Continue until pillowcase is dry.
    3. Spritz blocking: Pin the pieces out to dimensions. Use a water bottle, spray pieces until damp, not soaking wet, then let the pieces dry.

  3. Do I need to block my garment before seaming it together?
Blocking your garment pieces before seaming is beneficial. When you block the pieces to dimension, the garment will be the correct size as in your pattern. Also, the edges will lie flat so seaming is easier – especially when doing the ladder or mattress stitch
